Speaker: Prof. Myeong-Gu Park and Prof. Jungjoo Sohn

The General Lecture titled “Brief History of the Universe” and “Astronomy for Science Education” was successfully conducted on February 2nd, 2026, at the JICA Auditorium, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FPMIPA), Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI). This academic event was held in collaboration between the Science Education Study Program of UPI and the Korean Astronomical Society (KAS) as part of an effort to strengthen international academic cooperation in science education.

The lecture featured two distinguished speakers: Prof. Myeong-Gu Park from Kyungpook National University and Prof. Jungjoo Sohn from Korea National University of Education. Both speakers shared insights on the development of the universe from a scientific perspective and discussed how astronomy can be effectively integrated into science education. Their presentations highlighted the importance of astronomical concepts in fostering scientific literacy and critical thinking among students.

The event was attended by science education students from undergraduate to doctoral levels (S1–S3), as well as science teachers from various institutions. Through this lecture, participants gained broader perspectives on astronomy as an interdisciplinary field and its relevance in teaching and learning practices. The activity is expected to contribute positively to the enhancement of science education and to encourage continued collaboration between Indonesian and Korean academic communities.
