The Science Education Study Program is an integrated study program for the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels under the Faculty of Mathematics and Science Education (FPMIPA), Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI). The establishment of the Science Education Study Program for the master’s and doctoral programs occurred much earlier than the establishment of the undergraduate Science Education program/International Program on Science Education (IPSE). The Master’s and Doctoral Science Education programs began operating in 1979. The Master’s and Doctoral Science Education Study Program is recorded as the oldest Science Education Study Program in Indonesia. Its operational permit was reinforced in 1993. At that time, the Science Education Study Program was under the Sekolah Pascasarjana UPI (UPI Graduate School). However, starting in 2023, the Science Education Study Program was integrated for the undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs under FPMIPA UPI. The Master’s and Doctoral Science Education Study Program have been accredited Unggul (Excellent) by BAN-PT (2022–2027) and have international accreditation from AQAS (2022–2028).
For the undergraduate program, Science Education/IPSE was established in 2009. The establishment of this Study Program was driven by the need for competent and globally competitive science teachers. IPSE is the only Science Education Study Program in Indonesia that conducts its academic activities in English. IPSE has been accredited by BAN-PT (2023–2028) and has international accreditation from AQAS (2022–2028).
The graduate profiles and competencies differ across each program. The graduate profile for IPSE is a competent science educator and practitioner able to teach in local/international schools with a sustainability perspective. The graduate profile for the master’s program is an independent, professional, globally competitive science educator, researcher, and practitioner with a sustainability outlook. The graduate profile for the doctoral program is a science educator, expert researcher, and practitioner.

The competencies of Master’s graduates of the Science Education Study Program include the ability to develop TPACK, conduct research to advance the field of science education, develop science laboratories, and engage in entrepreneurship in science-related fields with a sustainability perspective. Master’s graduates can work as lecturers, teachers, laboratory heads, entrepreneurs, etc. The competencies of doctoral graduates of the Science Education Study Program include the ability to innovate in Science TPACK, develop and implement research roadmaps, possess managerial capabilities, and create sustainability-oriented entrepreneurial ventures.
