Demonstrating a commitment to international research collaboration and environmental education, science education researchers from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) have partnered with international scholars from Japan to publish a comprehensive book titled “Facility for Education of Sustainable Development in Kitakyushu City: Ways to Attain SDGs.”
The research initiative involved doctoral research activities at The University of Kitakyushu (Faculty of Environmental Engineering, Special Research Laboratory) under the PKPI/PMDSU research exchange framework.
Fostering Eco-City Educational Frameworks
Published in February 2024, the book explores how Kitakyushu—recognized globally as an Eco-Model City—integrates Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into governmental and educational frameworks to foster a Green Growth City.
Key areas highlighted in the publication include:
- Education for Sustainable Development (ESD): Strategies for nurturing younger generations to become active agents of change in building a sustainable society.
- Planet, People, and Prosperity: Linking public-focused ESD activities with behavioral change to address climate change and environmental challenges across Asia and globally.
- Resource Circulation & Renewable Energy: Examining practical educational efforts to transform urban centers into smart, eco-friendly cities utilizing renewable energy and sustainable resource management.
