On Monday, 11th November 2024, the International Program on Science Education (IPSE) FPMIPA UPI hosted a captivating guest lecture featuring two speakers from South Korea. Held from 8 to 10:30 AM, the event commenced with a warm opening speech by Prof. Ari Widodo, Head of the Science Education Study Program. The lecture brought together undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students of Science Education and Physics Education, along with their lecturers, for a fascinating exploration of cosmology and astronomy education.

Prof. Park Chang-Beom, representing the Korean Astronomy Society, captivated the audience with his presentation on modern cosmology, titled “Recent Progresses in Extragalactic Astronomy and Cosmology.” He shed light on groundbreaking discoveries and developments in understanding galaxies beyond the Milky Way, sparking curiosity about the vast universe. Following him, Prof. Sohn Jungjoo from the Korea National University of Education shared innovative educational technologies designed to make learning astronomy more engaging. He introduced a variety of online resources and tools, inspiring students to explore astronomy through interactive and accessible platforms.

The session provided a unique opportunity for students and faculty to engage directly with global experts, bridging the gap between scientific knowledge and education technology. Participants left the lecture not only with a deeper understanding of modern cosmology but also with fresh ideas for incorporating advanced tools into teaching and learning astronomy. The Science Education Department was honored to host this international collaboration and hopes to continue fostering such enriching academic exchanges in the future.
