World Class University – Adjunct Professor Series

Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with Prof. Minsu Ha, Ph.D. from Seoul National University (SNU), South Korea, is part of a series of Adjunct Professor Program activities carried out by the Science Education Study Program, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Indonesia University of Education (UPI). This activity supports UPI’s efforts to become a World Class University (WCU) by strengthening international academic networks and improving the quality of research, learning, and scientific publications.

Focus Group Discussion (FGD) was held on Monday, October 24, 2025, at the FPMIPA Building, Indonesia University of Education, as part of the Adjunct Professor Series program featuring Prof. Minsu Ha, Ph.D., from Seoul National University, South Korea. The theme for this event was “Current Research Trends in Science Education” and was attended by lecturers from the Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Doctoral Science Education Study Programs.

The event opened with a speech from the Head of the Study Program, who emphasized the importance of international research collaboration and increasing lecturers’ scientific publications. Next, Prof. Minsu Ha presented the latest research trends in science education, covering topics such as AI-based assessment, cognitive bias, translanguaging, and multimodal learning. The discussion was interactive, with lecturers sharing their experiences and asking questions about strategies for publishing in reputable international journals, the consistency of AI-based assessment, and opportunities for cross-institutional research collaboration.

Some important ideas that emerged in the discussion included:
1. Integration of translanguaging and multimodal learning in science education to improve the conceptual understanding of multilingual students.
2. The use of AI in essay assessment to maintain consistency and objectivity in grading.
3. The DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) approach in science education, particularly in multicultural contexts such as Korea and Indonesia.
4. Strategies for publishing in international journals, including selecting reputable target journals, writing efficiency, and the ethical use of AI tools.

The event was closed with an initial agreement to explore joint research collaboration between UPI and SNU, particularly in the fields of AI-based assessment and cross-cultural science education
