A total of 7 keynote speakers and 256 presenters participated in the annual International Conference on Mathematics and Science Education (ICMScE). This event was held in a hybrid format, both online and in-person, by the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences Education (FPMIPA) at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) in collaboration with the East Asian Association for Science Education (EASE), involving 321 participants. The seminar took place at the JICA Building A – FPMIPA Campus UPI Bumi Siliwangi, Jalan Dr. Setiabudhi No. 229, Bandung, from Monday to Wednesday (July 8–10, 2024).

Irma Rahma Suwarma, S.Si., M.Pd., Ph.D., as the Chair of the Organizing Committee, reported that this event serves as a meeting platform for international academics, researchers, and educators. Present at the occasion was UPI Rector Prof. Dr. H. M. Solehuddin, M.Pd., M.A., who officially opened the Joint Conference EASE-ICMScE 2024. Meanwhile, FPMIPA UPI Dean Prof. Dr. H. Tatang Herman, M.Ed., and EASE President delivered welcome addresses.

Irma explained, “This year, EASE-ICMScE carries the theme ‘Strengthening Science and Mathematics Education as a Valuable Foundation for Sustainable Development Goals.'”

EASE-ICMScE featured seven keynote speakers to deliver presentations in their respective fields. They included Prof. Dr. Tosihide Hirano from Japan, Prof. Dr. Chokchai Yuenyong from Thailand, Prof. Dr. Wan Zhihong from Hong Kong, Prof. Sri Rahayu, M.Ed., Ph.D., from Indonesia, Prof. Fang-Ying Yang from Taiwan, Prof. Hyoung-Yong Park from South Korea, and Prof. Bao Hui Zhang, Ph.D., from China.

Irma Rahma Suwarma further noted the diversity of conference participants, with a total of 321 registrants. Among them, there were 256 presenters, both online and in-person, representing various countries. Participants came from all EASE member regions, including Mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Thailand, as well as countries such as the United States, the Philippines, Malaysia, Germany, and Africa.

During the 2024 ICMScE, a Research Poster Exhibition was also held. The Research Poster Exhibition provided an opportunity for academics to showcase their findings and engage in stimulating discussions with peers from various countries.

The agenda for the second day included presentations from keynote speakers and invited speakers, along with parallel presentation sessions, both online and in-person. The event concluded with a closing ceremony that included the announcement of award winners and closing remarks from the chair.

The EASE-ICMScE joint conference was a great success, fostering international collaboration and providing valuable insights on how to strengthen science education for a more sustainable future.

The exchange of ideas, expertise, and cultural perspectives promises a lasting impact on the global trajectory of science education, paving the way for a future where these disciplines empower us to build a more sustainable world. (dodiangga)
