
POSBELITUNG.CO, BELITUNG – The Science Education Study Program from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) conducted a Community Service Program (PkM) activity in Belitung Regency on Saturday, August 10, 2024. This activity is a collaboration with the Education and Culture Office of Belitung Regency.
The event involved various educational levels from UPI, including undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral programs, and focused on enhancing the competencies of science teachers in Belitung. The Head of the Science Education Study Program at UPI, Prof. Dr. Ida Kaniawati, M.Si., stated that the main goal of this activity is to develop innovative learning in the implementation of the Independent Curriculum.
“The results of this activity are expected to be trialed in their respective schools and become a collaborative scientific publication between teachers and lecturers,” she said in a press release on Saturday, August 17, 2024.
In addition to the implementation of PkM, this event also marked the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Science Education Study Program at UPI and the Education and Culture Office of Belitung Regency.
The focus of this collaboration includes the development of science learning media, the development of learning assessments, and the preparation of teaching modules that align with the Independent Curriculum.
This PkM activity was conducted in both offline and online formats for 32 lesson hours, consisting of five main sessions. The main session featured a presentation by Prof. Dr. phil. Ari Widodo, M.Ed., on the Development of Innovative Science Learning in the Implementation of the Independent Curriculum.
Following this, there were three parallel sessions discussing the development of teaching modules, learning media, and science learning assessments, each guided by experts in their respective fields.
The final session was an Ecology Practicum held at the Gusong Bugis mangrove eco-tourism site in Belitung Regency.
In this session, science teachers were trained to implement inquiry-based practicums to investigate abiotic and biotic factors, using a combination of tools and applications to detect the scientific names of plants and animals in the mangrove area.
Waliyem, the Head of the Junior High School Development Division at the Education and Culture Office of Belitung Regency, expressed appreciation for this activity.
According to her, this activity not only enhances teachers’ competencies but also contributes to the fulfillment of activities in the Merdeka Belajar Program.
With this comprehensive series of activities, it is hoped that the results of the PkM will have a positive impact on the development of science education in Belitung Regency and effectively support the implementation of the Independent Curriculum. (*)
