TASIKMALAYA, RADARTASIK.ID – Teachers involved in the Science Subject Teacher Consultation Group (MGMP) of Tasikmalaya District received a visit from a community service team from the Science Education Study Program, FPMIPA, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) Bandung.

The team consisted of three lecturers: Prof. Dr. Diana Rochintaniawati MEd, Dr. Eka Cahya Prima MT, and Dr. Rika Rafikah Agustin MPd, along with two undergraduate students, Nadia Aristi and Ayu Nursalamah, and a graduate student, Winata Tegar Saputra. The activity, titled “Utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Low Carbon Learning,” was carried out as part of efforts to develop science education oriented toward Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).

The world is currently facing an energy crisis and air pollution due to the massive use of fossil fuels, which has increased carbon dioxide (CO2) levels in the atmosphere, triggering the greenhouse effect and contributing to global warming and climate change. Alongside the development of AI in various aspects of life, this technology has the potential to make a significant contribution to science education. In this activity, AI was utilized as a platform to help teachers generate innovative ideas for designing Low Carbon learning.

Prof. Dr. Diana Rochintaniawati MEd, who led this community service program, explained that through science education, it is hoped that community awareness regarding the importance of energy-efficient use can be fostered to support sustainability goals. This activity followed two previous online meetings held on July 20 and August 3, 2024. During the two previous online meetings, teachers received training from Prof. Diana and her team on how to utilize AI to design innovative learning centered on the Low Carbon theme. In this training, the teachers were guided by lecturers to use various AI platforms available online, which can assist them in designing teaching modules, developing learning media, and preparing learning evaluations.

During the activity in Tasikmalaya, the lecturers and science teachers involved in the MGMP Tasikmalaya District observed innovative Low Carbon-themed learning. Ayu Yuana SPd MPd, who acted as the model teacher in this learning simulation, successfully designed and implemented Low Carbon learning with the support of AI. Ayu presented material on Energy Efficiency during the lesson. She not only showcased innovative and engaging teaching methods but also facilitated students to learn meaningfully by measuring the light intensity of incandescent and LED bulbs using a Lux meter.

This learning simulation was attended by 32 students from SMPN 1 Sukaraja Tasikmalaya and observed by three lecturers from the Science Education Department, FPMIPA UPI, along with 33 science teachers involved in MGMP Tasikmalaya.

Ayu expressed that this simulation gave her the opportunity to implement the planned learning while sharing experiences and learning together with other teachers on how to teach physics concepts that are easily observed and relevant to students’ daily lives. (Repost from Radartasik.id)
