Demonstrating a commitment to internationalization and cutting-edge academic innovation, Arip Nurahman, a lecturer in the Science Education Program at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), has completed the International Internship Pilot Program (IIPP) in Taiwan. The program ran for three months, from November 1, 2024, to January 31, 2025.

Organized by the National Applied Research Laboratories (NARLabs) and sponsored by Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), the internship was hosted at the National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU).

Pioneering Innovations in Science Education and STEM

During the three-month research fellowship, Arip Nurahman spearheaded several key academic initiatives and technological frameworks in science education:

  • STEM-ESD Method Development: Integrated Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) principles into modern STEM learning models.
  • The AISI Taiwan: Developed the Adaptive Interactive Study Interface (AISI) tailored to enhance interactive digital learning environments.
  • Scholarly Presentations & Conference Papers: Served as a paper presenter at the 2025 IEEE 8th Eurasian Conference on Educational Innovation (IEEE-ECEI).
  • International Professional Affiliations: Expanded international research networks by becoming an active member of the Association of Science Education in Taiwan (ASET) and the American Physical Society (APS).

Immersive Fieldwork, Industrial Visits, and Cultural Exchange

In addition to laboratory research and lectures, the IIPP exchange program included structured field studies across Taiwan’s prominent technological hubs and cultural landmarks:

  • Technology & Innovation Hubs (Hsinchu): On November 15, 2024, participants toured the Hsinchu Science Park, visited semiconductor industry leader Macronix, and explored the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) Showroom.
  • Scientific & Cultural Exploration (Taichung): On January 17, 2025, the program conducted field visits to Taiwan’s National Museum of Natural Science—a pioneer in hands-on natural science collection and research—followed by an architectural study of the historic Wufeng Lin Family Mansion and Garden.

Fostering International Research Networks

The NSTC IIPP fellowship provided a platform for international meetings, workshops, symposia, and collaborative lectures, reinforcing UPI’s academic ties with top-tier research institutions in Taiwan.

The host institution acknowledged Arip Nurahman’s valuable contributions to the department, noting that his outputs in STEM-ESD research and adaptive learning technology will contribute significantly to future academic collaborations between Indonesia and Taiwan.
