Two lecturers from the Science Education Study Program, Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) — Hanna Nurul Husna, M.Pd., and Ai Nurlaelasari Rusmana, M.Ed. — were selected to participate in the Non-Degree Technical Training for PPG Lecturers and Mentor Teachers, organized by the Directorate of Teacher Professional Education (Direktorat Pendidikan Profesi Guru), Ministry of Education (Kemendikdasmen).
The training, held from October 19–24, 2025, took place at the Millennium Hotel Sirih, Jakarta, and gathered 80 participants, consisting of 40 university lecturers and 40 mentor teachers (guru pamong) from across Indonesia. This capacity-building program was facilitated by a team from Deakin University, Australia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Directorate General of Teachers and Teacher Education (GTK).
Carrying the theme “Empowering Educators with In-Depth Literacy and Numeracy Skills through Artificial Intelligence (AI),” the week-long training aimed to enhance teachers’ and lecturers’ understanding of deep learning, literacy, and numeracy, while integrating AI-based approaches in professional education for teachers.
Throughout the sessions, participants engaged in a series of interactive classes, including workshops such as “From Myths to Meaning: Understanding AI and Deep Learning in Indonesian Classrooms”, “Assessing with AI in Literacy and Numeracy,” and “Showcasing AI in Class.” These sessions encouraged educators to design, implement, and assess AI-supported learning units that promote higher-order thinking and real-world application of literacy and numeracy concepts.
The participation of UPI representatives underscores the university’s commitment to advancing AI-integrated education, and to contributing to Indonesia’s teacher professional development at the national level. By engaging in international collaboration with Deakin University, this initiative also strengthens UPI’s role as a leading institution in science and teacher education innovation.
